A Little Bit About Me
I started out doing yoga in my college dorm room from a magazine pull-out my freshman year. That’s right—no fancy mat or clothes, and no in-person classes were available at the school or in town. But there was something about it that was attractive to me as a self-professed nerd and for someone who was never very athletic. I could move my body in different ways that helped me feel better, and it was much different than going to the gym. I started to record (on VHS!) 30 minute yoga classes that were on TV. I eventually bought a simple mat and a full hour class (still on VHS!). After college, I married and moved to California and began to take classes in person there. So thrilling! As a military spouse, I was able to take classes around the country and learn from various styles of yoga. I pursued my Master’s of Social Work in Mental Health and really felt yoga would combine well with mental health treatment, but I didn’t know how that would work as there wasn’t any framework out for it at the time. It took me over 10 years to have the time and resources as a military spouse and mother of 2 girls to find the teacher training that was a good fit for me. I trained with a focus on Vinyasa yoga at Honest Soul Yoga in Alexandria, VA with studio founder Suzie Mills in conjunction with Ashley Zuberi and Stacy Warrington. As a teacher at Honest Soul Yoga, I branched out into learning and teaching more styles such as Gentle, Restorative, Meditation, Chair, and kids’ yoga. I’ve also done more specialty training to provide Trauma Informed Yoga for PTSD and Anxiety, and Self Massage techniques through The Roll Model Method. My husband retired from the military in 2019 and we found ourselves moving one more time into what we proudly call our forever home, the Sullivan County Catskills. I am honored to share yoga in the county with the wonderful community here in New York.
